My first race of the year…or at least the first lap of my first race. There were two bad accidents on the first lap of the course: one involving a pothole and an unconscious lady, the other a car and a guy who had a very badly timed crash and fell into an oncoming car as a result. Coming up to the start/finish, you know you’re in for bad news when you hear people shouting “Ambulance on the course” as you come by and the official is standing in the middle of the road waving you off. After waiting around for about a half hour, they canceled the race.
Other than being short, it went pretty well for my first race back. I felt strong, but I was a little over-eager and was chasing down anything that moved. Can’t wait for the next one to see how the sprint goes.
After the race was called, we went out an rode as a team. It was great to be able to ride with my ladies. Laura and Amy are looking good and I’m getting to know my new teammates. It started as just a spin, but turned into a pretty good workout trying to Nato-pace up the ‘hills’.
