Let the knitting begin!

My interest in knitting started while I was in South America, though to tell the truth I can’t remember if it was during my first or second trip.  I do remember being impressed by all the knit goods.  The interest continued, probably fueled by its popular interest in some circles.  Visiting G-ma this months was a perfect opportunity to learn.

When I first asked for knitting lessons, G-ma chuckled a bit.  Turns out she hasn’t knit in about 30 years, but she was happy to give it a go anyway.  She was unsure if she’d remember how, but it all came back after a few stitches.  It’s amazing what the brain stores even if we don’t recall it at first.

My first little project was a set of Christmas bells.  It was G-ma’s first project when she learned to knit at night school and with the impending holiday season it’s a great place to start.  She didn’t have the pattern anymore, but thought she knew it.  For the second bell a quick Google produced a slightly better pattern.  Can you tell which was my first piece?

My next project was a pair of slippers.  G-ma did have the pattern for this one, but it was in super short hand and skipped a couple steps since she used to make so many of these.  By the second one we figured out what was missing.

I’m sure there will be more knitting posts in the weeks to come, but I don’t want to post any current projects.  The suprise of the holidays and all, ya know?
